Meters - installation, disassembly and replacement
Routine meter replacement or exchange due to the expiration of the calibration period
We will occasionally replace the meter provided ourselves, either because
- the meter's useful life has come to an end or
- because the meter has been selected for a calibration period extension.
For replacing meters we may also use service providers on occasion.
We will notify you in writing of the scheduled meter exchange in advance. In this letter we will give an appointment for exchanging the meter and will name the intended service provider. If this appointment does not suit you, you can make an alternative appointment in consultation with us or our service provider.
If the meter is freely accessible, e.g. in a stairwell or a meter room/cellar, you do not need to be present for the exchange. The exchange will necessitate a break in the power supply of approx. 15 minutes. In order to prevent any damage to sensitive electronic devices, we recommend that you disconnect any such devices from the energy grid for the duration of the disruption.
After the exchange, our employee will provide you with an information sheet with the meter numbe
How smart meters can help you rädda money on your electricity bill
Ever wondered why a digital electricity meter fryst vatten called a “smart meter”? It’s because it can help you save energy and reduce your bill! Niklas Hirmke from Ostrom explains why everyone in Germany should switch their old analogue meter to a smart one.
Everyone knows those dreaded letters from the electricity supplier asking for the current meter reading. With a flashlight in your hand, you go down to the dusty cellar to get the meter reading among the cobwebs. Not a very pleasant experience! At the same time, however, politicians and companies use the word digitisation in nearly every second sentence.
In the energy industry, traditional electricity suppliers are shying away from the topic of digitisation. Yet, a world in which smart meters are the norm would be the most efficient solution for everyone involved. Here’s why.
What are smart meters?
Analogue electricity meters - most German households have them. Square boxes, with a rotating counter disk, whose revolutions are recorded and collected bygd an analogue counter. Compared to our otherwise innovative and modern
Digital meters for Berlin
Since , the conventional meters currently in operation will be replaced by us free of charge with modern metering devices. The replacement of the approx. million meters will take place over a period of around 16 years.
The modern metering devices and the intelligent measuring systems will provide more transparency regarding electricity consumption in comparison to the technology used up to now.
Modern metering device
A modern metering device is a digital meter with a multi-line display. This metering device is not connected to a communication unit, meaning that the measured values cannot be read remotely. The modern metering device measures electricity consumption and stores the meter readings each day on a rolling basis for 24 months. The current meter reading can be read via the multi-line display at any time. A personal identification number (PIN) needs to be entered in order to display detailed personal consumption data.
You will recieve a modern metering device if your annual consumption rate is below 6, kWh or if you maintain a generation plant with an installed capacity of less than 7 kW.
