Diabetes mot illamående
It is very important to know how to cope with illness if you have diabetes or know or care for somebody with diabetes. If in doubt, always seek advice from your doctor or nurse straightaway.
Any illness or other type of stress will raise your blood sugar (glucose) levels, even if you are off your food or eating less than usual. People with diabetes are unable to produce more insulin to control the glucose level. The increased glucose level can make you become very lacking in fluid in the body (dehydrated).
Acting quickly and following advice helps to keep your glucose levels in the normal range or only slightly high. Because it can sometimes be very difficult to control your blood glucose levels, treatment in hospital may be needed. Hospital treatment may also be needed if you become very dehydrated.

Glibenklamid (Glibenklamid, Daonil, Euglucon)
Glibenklamid stimulerar pankreas för att frisätta mer insulin oavsett blodsockerläge. Effekten sitter oftast i läka dygnet (behöver endast ges i endos!). Förmår sänka HbA1c inom storleksordningen 10 mmol/mol. kr/dag.
Dosering: Startdos: 1 medicindos à mg ½ 60 minuter före morgonmål. Börja ständigt med små dos! Effekten är ofta bättre än förväntad. Maxdos mg/dygn.
Glipizid (Mindiab, Glibenese, Apamid, Ozidia)

Diabetes when youre unwell
It's important to know how to manage your diabetes when you're ill.
Some people will know this as diabetes sick day rules.
You'll need to know how to manage your insulin doses and other diabetes medications, as well as monitoring your blood glucose (sugar) and ketone levels along with diet.
This is really important if you go into hospital or if you need to take steroids as part of your treatment.
Always tell the healthcare professionals treating you that you have diabetes and how you manage and monitor it.
How illness affects diabetes
Illness and infections, as well as other forms of stress, can raise your blood glucose (sugar) levels to dangerously high levels. As part of the body’s defence mechanism for fighting illness and infection, more glucose is released into the blood stream. This can happen even if you’re off your food or eating less than usual.
People who don’t have diabetes just produce more insulin to cope. But when you’ve got diabetes, your body can’t do this. The symptoms of having diabetes can add to those of your illness or infection and make it much worse.
Feeling or being sick, or having diarrhoea can make your blood s
