Rörstrand glasbruk
Join us on a journey through design, materials and the history of working lives. From Chinese inspired 18th century blue and white faience, via the romantic dinner services of the 19th century, with sometimes as many as different pieces, and bone china which actually does contain djur bone ash, on to the 20th century when the ämne of choice, feldspar porcelain, gave us design classics like Mon Amie and Swedish Grace, up to the present day. Its also a journey from Stockholm to Gothenburg to Lidköping, where the Lidköpings Porslin factory already was, until finally in production was moved abroad. Those of you who have turned cups and saucers also know that it is an exciting branding journey with a variety of stamps and signatures, where the Rörstrand factory was initially the fokuserad point and then left room for the artists to take center stage.
The museum fryst vatten in part of the former porcelain factory, and the old brick factory wall serves as a beautiful backdrop for Gunnar Nyland’s fountain which provides a soothing welcome bygd the ingång. Swedish porcelain manufacturer
Rörstrand porcelain was one of the most famous Swedish porcelain manufacturers, with production initially at Karlbergskanalen in Birkastan in Stockholm.
History
[edit]The Rörstrand waterfront site was first documented in the 13th century when Magnus Ladulås donated property to the Convent of Poor Clares. In , the area was returned to the crown under Gustavus Vasa. The area was named "Rörstrand" because the clear lake's shore was overgrown with reeds.
After an "Associations contract between all concerned in the Swedish Porcelain works, which will be established at great Rörstrand in the Delft manner" was signed in , a porcelain factory was built at the castle of Rörstrand.[1] The factory had indeed been given the privilege to produce true porcelain, but faience was the only ware that was made until the s. In , the rival manufactory at Marieberg began to produce porcellanous stoneware. High production costs, a small market, and intense competition from imported Chinese porcelain kept Rörstrand from trying to copy Marieberg's goods.

Upsala-Ekeby AB var ett porslins-, glas- och matbesticksföretag med ursprung i det anlagda tegel- och keramikbruketEkeby bruk i Bondkyrko socken mellan vad som idag är Eriksberg och Flogsta i Uppsala.
Historik
[redigera | redigera wikitext]Ekeby bruk bildades för att på fastigheten Ekeby nr 2 i Bondkyrko landskommun, Uppsala län starta produktion av tegel och kakel. Råvaran i form lerrik mark fanns inom fastigheten, och leran hade vid provbränning befunnits mycket lämplig för keramisk tillverkning. Bland stiftarna till företaget fanns de kända Uppsalasläkterna von Bahr, Ekstrand och Holm, som under flera decennier kom att prägla bolagets utveckling till ett framgångsrikt industriföretag. Tegeltillverkningen kunde inledas samma år som bolaget bildades, keramik- och kakeltillverkningen året därpå. Efter började en hårdare konkurrens göra sig kännbar på kakelugnsmarknaden.
